County Republican & Press (Neillsville, Wis.) 01/06/1916 Babcock, Laura (12
NOV 1828 - 30 Dec 1915) Mrs. Laura
Babcock, an old resident of Clark County, died at the home of her
son Chas. Babcock in this city Dec. 30, 1915. She was born in
New York State Nov. 12, 1828, her maiden name being Laura D.
Goodrich. She was married there to Orlando W. Babcock in 1848.
About 61 years ago they came to Wisconsin and settled near Easton
in Adams Co., where they lived ten years. About 45 years ago they
came to Clark County and for many years lived on their farm in
Washburn. Mr. Babcock died 12 years ago and most of the time since,
she has made her home with her son Charles and family. For many
years she was a very strong and vigorous woman, but as old age
crept in she gradually grew feebler, but most of the time was able
to be about and even to make short trips to visit other relatives.
She was given the kindliest care in the home where everything
possible was always done for her comfort.; she was also much though
of by all the neighbors. She leaves one son, Charles of
Neillsville, one daughter, Mrs. Edith M. Waterman of Centralia,
Wash.; one son, Rollin D. Babcock, died when a young man. She
leaves also four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The
funeral was held at the home Sunday, Rev. L.B. Colman
officiating. Relatives from
away who were in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Will Wallace and
family of Alma Center, Ed Schroeder, Hugh Berg and Chester
Finnegan, all of Granton.
